New York Honky Tonk Tango

My flight from Paris into NYC was smooth, with champagne, a vegetable curry and a few good flicks to accompany me en route. I came in to join Tav Falco on the final day of his November US tour with the Panther Burns for a cozy tango during a sold out performance at the Rodeo Bar, the oldest honky tonk in the city. Besides Tav Falco, himself, the band's line up included Peter Dark on guitar, Ken Stringfellow on bass and Giovanna Pizzorno on drums. Giovanna opened their set with a sultry belly dance to the song "Sympathy for Mata Hari", off their latest album Conjurations.

Left: View from the hotel room for the first night, close enough to the Rodeo Bar to engage in a nice nighttime stroll past fragrant restaurants wafting curried bliss out their doors.

A stop for lunch the next day at the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station

Checking out the dining room before slipping back into the saloon.

NY behind bars: spending the second night in Greenwich Village

Jet lag hits...

I ended my three-day NY tour with near-complete recovery on Long Island — helped by an excellent fresh-herb omelet cooked up by Panther Burns' guitarist Peter Dark — before flying down to the land of lasting sun and palm trees.
Hopefully some pics or vids of the performance will pop up on the 'net!
