Place Saint-Etienne

During my December walk in Toulouse, I happened upon the urban expanse of Place Saint-Etienne and its eponymous cathedral.  With the first construction dating to the 13th century, the cathedral anchors the Place with grace and solidity, its austere bell tower reaching to the heavens.
Apartments, businesses and shops surround the rest and lead off down the Rue de la Croix Baragnon, with more elegant boutiques,  busy cafes and inviting courtyards.

I was led into the Place down the curved Rue Pierre de Fermat — a living history of architecture in itself — which opened onto this place of an artist's inspiration.
